As promised, I decided to do a second edition of my weekend report!
On Thursday me an John had a look at opening of D3 which is the shortcut for Dubai design district. D3 is a new area in Dubai which will be the new home for design in Dubai. Focussed on the needs of designers and creative talent, the area will mainly offer office and retail space for regional and local design and fashion businesses.
The opening was supported with an amazing performance from John Newman, super cool food trucks and several pop up shops!
One of the highlights was the attendance from Lidewij Edelkoort, a trend forecaster from Holland (WHUT WHUT!!) who gave a trend talk on the development of design. I have been to her readings before in Holland and a few years back when she was here for Art Dubai. Her vision on the future is extremely interesting, especially the way she explains her thoughts to people. Perhaps check out some of her videos on youtube!
And obviously we posed for a quick snap with Ahlan! Magazine.
On Friday John and I got ready to head to the Ripe market, which we have never been to before. the plan spontaneously changed as we decided, while we were driving on the way to the market, that we rather go for a good drink and a bite! After a quick U-TURN we made our way straight to the ASIA ASIA brunch in PIER7 which is also in the entertainer voucher book! (2for1 offer)
Food score: 7
Service: 8,5
Ambience: 8
In the evening a very good friend of mine Ammar celebrated his “18th birthday” ;-)) in Solero tapas & bodega, which is located in the Kempinski Hotel Mall of emirates. The food was ok (after being used to tapas in Spain) but the ambience and salsa dancing was a 10 out of 10!
The day after that we drank away our hangover by enjoying some cocktails and sunshine at one of the most beautiful hotels in Dubai, Anantara.
That’s all for now! Back to work :-)
